In April of '05 I took a European river cruise. It involved seven nights sleeping on a bunk which pulled down from a wall.It was also the last room on the ship, so behind the wall was the vibrating engine room. The cruise was smooth. We got off every day and toured the cities along the banks of the Danube. I felt fine. At the end of the cruise,we took a van to Prague, which was about 4 hours away. I sat in the back and we drove through many winding hills. It was not till I got to Prague and went up in the hotel elevtor that I felt the strange feeling that things were movng slightly. We spent three days there, mostly walking, and I felt fine outside but not in the hotel. We then flew from Prague to London and London to Chicago where I walked on a long moving sidewalk, then took a plane to Dallas. I felt tired and slightly off after returning. Three days later, I took a round trip of about 180 miles.I definitly felt off when I returned home-like I was vibrating after that trip. I went to my family doctor and he prescribed xanax but over the next month my symptoms worsened. The only time I felt well was in bed or in the car. In July of '05, I was diagnosed with MdDS and put on klonopin. I am stil on it and it only dulls the symptoms. My symptoms are worse every other day now and include a feeling of flying on the bad day but not on the good day. I have always maintained my balance but feel like I am consciously balancing rather than it being a natural thing. Since then, both knees have developed osteoarthritis and need to be replaced. I attribute this to the MdDS and also to the extra weight I have put on from being more sedentary and from taking klonopin.
